My name is Coley Duffie. When we started this business we had no idea that it was even a business. On September 27th, 2024, Hurricane Helene devastated our community and none of us really knew how bad it actually was — there was no power, barely any phone service, no TV. So we turned to the radio. We sat there and listened to what was going on: people trapped in their homes calling the station, and the radio station asking listeners and volunteers for help.
We couldn't help in a lot of ways, but we knew how to cut trees, and thankfully we could get out. So we borrowed a couple saws, rounded up a couple guys, and hit the road. We listened to that radio station for days, helping anyone that we could. Days turned into weeks. At that time we were only taking donations — people would pay if they could, however much they could, just so that we could help the next person in line who may not have anything.
We then became recognized on the radio as "The Chainsaw Brothers." That's where the name came from.
As months went by we were still helping with storm clean-up, getting trees off people's houses, clearing roads. We realized our community needed a tree company that was fair and reasonably priced, and that could help those in need when they needed it. We had experience working in the tree industry before and knew the ins and outs of it — so we started working on making this a real business. Now, here we are nearly two years in, still serving our community the best that we can.
Don't let that fool you — we've only got two years together as the Chainsaw Brothers, but 13 years of experience running a company. And we're excited to have many more as "The Chainsaw Brothers" in WNC.
